Christmas Blessing

I was going to title this post "Christmas/(Kezia's) Blessing," but I decided that it worked just like it is - because Christmas truly was a blessing this year. I really think that 2009 will be a Christmas to remember - one we'll look back on and cherish. One that will change all future Christmas' because we will work harder to bless others the way we have been blessed this year.

From all sides, generosity came pouring in. We have never had such bounteous gift-giving. Christmas morning was truly exciting because there were many presents that were absolute mysteries. We had no idea what was inside. They didn't disappoint! The sub-for-santa gifts were wonderful, thoughtful, and delightful. Thank you again to our "Santa." As far as the going-down-the-chimney Santa, he brought McKinley a princess bike (she LOVES it - rides it around and around the kitchen island all day long), Ireland got a portable DVD player (OK, so she wasn't that stoked about it now, but I'm sure on our trips to Richfield, she will be LOVIN' it!), and Kezia got a cute toy.

We got to Grandma & Grandpa Potts house a bit late (OK, OK - 45 minutes late - sorry!). We had a great time this year - it was so wonderful because all the gifts were so thoughtful! We had the Edwards family for gift-giving and we had an agreement that we would spend nothing on the adults and under $10 on the kids. We got the kids some toys and got Cindy some DVDs that were transferred from tapes, gift certificates for babysitting, more DVD transferring, and digital scrapbooking. I also put together an 11x17 homemade picture with a butterfly poem and the footprints of each of her children made to look like butterflies.

Cindy was AMAZING! In between all her studying, preparing for her own Christmas, & being a single mom to 4 kids, she was able to make each of my girls fairy dress up costumes (from sentimental material, no less!), get each of them red & black dresses with matching flower/bows, make me LOADS of bread-maker ingredients in a bag, mom's hot chocolate in a bag, and probably the most meaningful of all - a day-by-day thought book made from my mom's old one. She typed each thought (all 365), printed them, cut them each out (had to be in a circular shape), and pasted it. I LOVE it, Cindy! We also got hand-made moccasins from Mike - they're way comfy -thanks Mike! Also, Kalli was cute & gave us a sacrament book for the girls and Tiarra was SO SWEET - she handmade gifts for all of us - clothespin dolls for the girls, a handstitched bookmark for me, and she even made a tooth bag for McKinley's first tooth. Tiarra- you rock! I seriously loved this year because everyone was so much more thoughtful and creative.

We also loved (as we do every year) Uncle Richard's amazing bag of candy for each person. And we're not talkin' little bite-sized pieces. No - I'm talking POUNDS of king-sized candy bars, jerky, etc. Awesome. Also, THANKS goes to mom & dad who got each of us a 9x11 digital photo frame. I've always wanted one!!

The rest of the day was spent enjoying the company of family (& especially the Checketts & Joseph who we don't get to see much), watching movies (Star Trek, Coraline & old home movies), going to the theatre (the boys went to see Sherlock Holmes), and eating tons of yummy food.
What an amazing Christmas! Here's a few pics (more in the Dec slideshow to come):

My favorite gifts of all!

The crazy Potts girls
Kezia's blessing was the Sunday after Christmas. It's supposed to be on a fast Sunday, but with my sister & brother in town, we were able to have it the Sunday after Christmas. It was a beautiful blessing. Kezia was gorgeous in her dress (with the hand-crocheted overdress from Grandma Tew that all the Potts great-grand-daughters have been blessed in). She did so great the entire day & it was so neat to have both sides of the family at our home to visit, eat good food, and share in the celebration of our sweet new baby girl.

Before church (see the dresses that Cindy got for McKinley & Ireland & our cute matching bows?)

The girls (doesn't Kezi just look like a little doll?)

Now... here's a comparison of all my girls in the same dress...

Hamilton Christmas Card 2009

So...I guess I am "non-traditional" in the sense that I have done a Christmas webpage instead of sending out Christmas cards, for about 5 years now.
It's not that I don't love getting Christmas cards in the mail - I do, I do! I guess it's just that it's more convenient for me to just e-mail a link - plus I get to put more pics & info.
I try to send out personalized e-mails, too, so hopefully that makes up for it a bit.
In case you didn't get an e-mail with the link, here's our "Christmas Card" for this year.
Merry Christmas everyone!

Thank you...

I was sitting under the Christmas tree tonight, reading a book called "God bless your way" to the girls for their bedtime story.

The doorbell rings.

I assume it's Jason coming back from scouts and I have McKinley open the door.

Wow.

There are a bunch of presents on the doorstep - for each girl and gift cards for me and Jason - from "Santa." Beautifully wrapped & labeled.

I am surprised. Shocked.
Times are tough for everyone...and yet, someone did this for us.

I could barely finish the book about baby Jesus. My eyes were full of tears & could not focus on the words. My heart is filled with gratitude for someone who is truly full of the Christmas spirit - who is truly honoring the babe in the manger who's birth we celebrate.

The generosity of others truly astounds me at times. It is an amazing, humbling thing to be on the receiving end of such giving.

Thank you "Santa." Truly. Thank you.

November Slideshow & Kids stuff!

Holy Cow! Where did November go?? Hmmm - must have gotten lost in the newborn-baby-fog!
Below is the slideshow from November (pictures from Kezia's 2-week photoshoot are at the end - so sweet!) & a random little vid with the girls & then below are the usual crazy/cute things that my girls say & do!

McKINLEY:
-McKinley sure loves her new baby sister – she loves reading to her, singing to her, and holding her (after she washes her hands – she is so good at remembering!)
-She has had a hard time going to preschool this month. We made the difficult decision to pull her out anyway because of our financial situation, but they love her so much, they are letting her go once a week for free.
-In the car, McKinley loves to play “I spy…” She is really good at it & loves to help Ireland and Kezia find things to “spy,” too.
-McKinley & Ireland were in some kind of altercation when McKinley says “Mom – Ireland is not getting any toys this year, huh? Because she’s being naughty!”
-In the car, McKinley was excited to spot the Oquirrh Mountain Temple. Then she said “I can’t find the guy with the flute, mom!” It took mom a little while to realize that she was talking about Moroni on the top of the temple.
-McKinley is into talking about twins a lot lately. She thinks that if you have the same hair color, or are born in the same month, or have the same color of bowl, you are twins.
-McKinley was drawing her friend (and apparently future husband), Jack. She said she was going to draw him with spiky hair (like her daddy) because he was a daddy in the picture.
-We were driving to grandma’s house at about 5pm & the sun was going down. McKinley said “The sun is going down already! This is a teeny-tiny day!”
-McKinley was supposed to be cleaning her room. She came downstairs & told mom “My room is all clean!” Mom said “Great! Let me go check…” to which McKinley said “No, No! I was just pretending that it was clean!”

IRELAND:
-Ireland has been learning to share. She still has a long way to go, but it’s so cute when she gives a toy to someone and says “here ya go!”
-Mom had pulled out the rack to check on a dish in the oven. Ireland came over and fully grabbed the 425 degree oven rack. Poor girl. She screamed & cried for quite a while & had quite the blisters the next few days.
-Ireland is so excited when she draws & likes to point out when she draws pictures of daddy, mommy, dogs, etc. Of course, there is absolutely no resemblance yet, but we’re taking her word for it at this point.
-Lately when we have caught Ireland getting into something she shouldn’t (which is quite frequently), she will point at you, and then scream “NOOOOO!” followed by “You’re a bad guy!”
-Ireland has started to contract her sister’s inquisitive nature. She’s started saying “But why mom/dad?”
-Ireland is into the preschool shows & has started to really interact. She will say her name when they ask what it is & try to say the letters. It’s so cute!
-Ireland is quite adept at getting naked given any choice of outfits. She’s also getting good at getting dressed by herself as well.
-For some unknown reason, Ireland gets a big kick out of biting all the erasers off any pencils she can find.
-We keep waiting for the novelty to wear off, but Ireland still cannot get enough of Kezia. When she is awake, all she wants to do is kiss her, hug her, talk to her & just be RIGHT THERE in her face the whole time. Kezia usually tolerates it pretty well, but she will let us know when she’s had enough.

KEZIA: Heidi always says that the last month of pregnancy is slow-motion, but from then on out, it’s fast-forward. It seems to be more true with each baby. Can’t believe she is 5 weeks!
-On the 30th, Kezia truly smiled for the first time. We’d seen glimpses before, but what an adorable, precious smile she has! Her daddy is especially good at getting her to grin!
-Kezia is healthy & strong & about 10 lbs already!
-She usually wakes up at about 2:30am & 5:30am. Not too bad!
-She is our little snorter – even before she got this little cold. She will always snort when she cries.
-She is also SUCH a hiccuper. She was in the tummy, too, but really it’s 4 or 5 times a day and they last for quite a while.
-She got her 2-week photoshoot at our home and she did really well. We got to play with lots of props, bows, and accessories.
-She did GREAT on our trip to & from Richfield. Slept the whole way!
-She had some issues w/ thrush & we both took niacin medicine for it. Not fun, but it seems better.

Gerald - 2009

It being the Family Home Evening before Thanksgiving, we did our annual Gerald the Grateful Turkey activity tonight. This year, we got to add another "feather" to Gerald's plumage!

As a humorous sidenote, during our Family Home Evening lesson, we talked about the story of the 10 lepers. I asked McKinley "Do you know what a leper is?" She answered "Yeah.. they run really fast!" It took us a minute, but Jason & I looked at each other & laughed out loud. She thought I meant a leopard :) I just had this strange image in my head of a leper all in bandages, running really, really fast.
So, here's a few of the things our family is grateful for this year (including an expanded version of my own at the bottom):

JASON:
-Family
-Home
-Savior
-The Plan
-Friends

McKINLEY: (I was so proud of her - she cut the hand out herself & wrote all the items herself - with her dad helping her spell)
-Bed
-Dogs
-Parents
-Home
-Food
-Sisters

IRELAND:
-Mom & Dad
-Sisters
-Legs to run
-Coloring
-Pizza
-Pink Blanket

KEZIA:
-Momma's milk
-Family
-Binki
-Vibrator Chair
-Blankets

HEIDI:
-My Jesus: My relationship with my Savior has grown so much this year. Yes, I have heard all my life that He needs to be my rock, my center, my solace, but it's so easy for me to try and either tackle things myself or lean on other things or people to comfort me or even just distract me. I am learning (and will be life-long learning) that I need to make the relationship with Him THE most important one in my life. It's the ONLY one that can never be taken away. What does that mean? It means I need to go to Him when I am happy, when I am sad, when I am angry, when I am confused, when I need council, when I need direction, when I am thankful. In addition, I need to learn more about Him so that I can grow closer to Him and I can try harder to be like Him. I am reading the Gospels and trying to apply His words and example to my life. When I do these things, I find such peace and happiness. I am SO thankful for my Savior!!

-My Husband: I know I talk about how great he is, but you have NO IDEA. This pregnancy, labor & delivery, and recovery was the hardest I've gone through, and he has been there for me every step of the way. Jason is an absolute angel. At the last prenatal forum, everyone at my birth talked about how amazing Jason was - how he knew what to do, how he never left my side, how his voice kept me grounded as I struggled through the pain. But they didn't stay at my home. They haven't seen this past month how he has let me sleep, taken over the laundry, fixed dinners, and taken care of the kids. No... he is not perfect ladies, but he truly is perfect for me. My love for him, through the trials we have faced this year and learning so much through The Love Dare, has grown tremendously. It's also a bonus that he is completely gorgeous - and that he still plays with my hair at night :)

-My Body: Even with these 20 lbs I still need to lose, I know my body is amazing. It still boggles my mind to think about the miracle that it takes to get pregnant, grow a baby, bring it into the world, and have the rich milk that it takes to help her grow healthy & strong. I look at Kezia's perfect little ears, fingers, toes, nose, etc, and think about how many things could have gone wrong while she was forming in my body, and yet here she is. so beautiful. so perfect. Yes, the recovery was difficult with Kezia. It makes me that much more thankful for when my body works so well. I am thankful for ears that hear the laughter of my girls as they play, eyes that get lost in the deep green emerald oceans of my husband's eyes, a nose that is able to take in all the amazing smells that the upcoming season brings, and a mouth to kiss my family, to express myself, and to taste amazing foods. I am thankful for legs that run, and hands that hold tiny fingers.

-My Children: Yes, there are days... you know the days... BUT I truly find so much joy in my children. Joy in McKinley's never-ending curiosity, in her humorous statements, in her singing, in her laughter. Joy in Ireland's boundless energy, her breathtaking smile and contagious laughter, her drawings, and her love of life. Joy in Kezia's fresh-from-heaven spirit, her beautiful eyes, her beautiful light-red hair, her coos and her hint of a smile. Yes, life with children is so much harder - and SO much better. Jason & I talked about what our dream job would be if money were no object. I honestly cannot say that there is any title I would rather have in this wide, wide world than that of "mommy."

-My Trials: Did I ever even imagine that Jason would be out of a job for all but 2 months of this year? Never. Some days I think it's not fair. I think I sure as heck would love to know the eternal reason for this. Some days, I panic. Most of the time, though, I have felt SO BLESSED. SO taken care of. Yes, I am thankful that we have gone through this trial. I really WOULD like to be able to see all the eternal reasons for this, but I can already see many blessings. My girls have been able to spend almost an entire year with their daddy. How precious! As I mentioned before, it has been such a blessing to have Jason home during the first 4 months of pregnancy sickness, during the last month or so when I was getting no sleep, during the labor & delivery, & this past month while I've been recovering from losing so much blood. Who knows? Maybe I would have done too much without him here & hemorrhaged again. Maybe I would have gotten overwhelmed and succumbed to postpartum depression. I don't know. I can't see the complete eternal picture, but I know it has brought Jason & I closer together. It has brought us closer as a family. It has certainly made us more appreciative of things like food. clothing. shelter. It has made us realize that we can get by with a LOT less than we thought - and still be HAPPY!

-Sleep. Refreshing, renewing, blessed, mind-clearing sleep, soul-cheering sleep. Don't need a lot of elaboration here, but I will sing praises when I am able to get more than a few hours uninterrupted sleep.

WE ARE SO BLESSED! Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Unconditional

The dr. says we need to keep Kezia home for 2 full months. Don't know if I'll make it that long - I'm sure missing church.
I'm grateful for the opportunity to do some "extended" personal study, though.
I'm still working on The Love Dare (yes - I missed a few days after the baby came, but I'm still plugging away).
Today's dare is "Love is Faithful"
It talks about the biblical story of Hosea - a man who was called to marry a prostitute. She betrayed him. He still loved her unconditionally.
"This is a true story, but it was used as a picture of God's love for us. He showers His favor on us without measure, though in return we often don't pay attention. At times we have acted shamefully and deemed His love an intrusion, as if it's keeping us from what we really want. We have rejected Him in many ways - and yet He still loves us. He still remains faithful."
This quote and story from Hosea reminds me of the book Redeeming Love. I read it a few months ago. It is a great book - great page-turner, but as a warning, much of it is very sad. Anyway, to know that my Savior loves me is an amazing thing. I am so thankful for that knowledge and really, if there is one thing that I can instill in my daughters, it is to ACCEPT their Savior's love for them into their innermost hearts. This quote also makes me want to try harder to ACKNOWLEDGE all the love that God pours out upon me. I am truly blessed!

Another, amazing quote:
"If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. If you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same."

I am tremendously guilty of this. And so, I made a list of people who have hurt, embarrassed, persecuted, used, or hated me or those I love. And I prayed for help in loving them - unconditionally. It is not an easy thing - especially for a few of those people on my list, but I truly felt God's love & I pray that I can love them and do good to them, period. How can I call myself a disciple of Christ if I'm still holding on to grudges and hatred? (Obviously, this is not a one-time-deal. I will need to KEEP praying for love for these people because pride inevitably tends to creep back in).

The flip side is that I remembered people in my life that I had hurt, embarrassed, etc, and it really brought me down. And so... to all those reading this that I have hurt or offended, I truly, sincerely ask your forgiveness.

HUGS ALL AROUND!! :)

Birthdays, Hamiltons, Beautiful...

Just a few things to blog about...

1. HAPPY 54th BIRTHDAY TO MY MOM!

Doesn't she make 54 look great? LOVE YOU MOM!

2. HAPPY 11th BIRTHDAY TO MY NIECE SEDONA (2 days ago)
She is a cutie and I had to do a birthday shout-out to her. It amazes me as our nieces edge into the preteen years - wow. Can't believe how fast they've grown!

3. The St. George Hamilton family came to visit us last weekend. We LOVE IT when they come to hang out! Here's a couple pics:

4. I just have to say how much I love my daughter, McKinley. She has been saying "I love you" spontaneously a lot lately. Then this morning at breakfast, she turns to me and says "mom, you're beautiful." It made me want to cry! So sweet! I went to the bathroom afterwards and checked to see if some magical transformation had happened overnight that would make her say that. NOPE! I'm still in full-on "baby-daze" mode - tired face & eyes, bad complexion, frumpy hair, PJs, blah... Somehow my girl was able to see past all that & tell me I'm beautiful. Made my day!

5. I went to my last forum today at my midwife's home. I have been to almost all of the monthly forums where she has all her clients come and we talk and learn and hear birth stories. I was SO thankful to be on the "birth story" side this time. I will miss all these ladies! It's been fun to get to know them and get to be on this home birth ride together. I don't think I ever posted a picture of Sherri. She's so awesome. I will miss seeing her every month, too! (although not enough to want to be pregnant again)

4am

2 nights ago, I woke up at 4am to feed Kezia.
McKinley then woke up. Thankfully Jason got up with her. Apparently, she had a bad dream...and she needed to go potty. While she was in the bathroom, Ireland's voice piped up. Mommy! Daddy!
I'm thinking...wow - all 3 girls up at 4am. Wow.
Truth be told, life has been a bit difficult the past few days with McKinley & Ireland. Need some examples? Huge water mess in the kitchen, massive play doh mess, pulling leaves off the new plant my mom gave me, ripping paper & leaving it everywhere, getting into the cupboards, pulling out EVERY toy imaginable and leaving it out, screaming, hitting, biting, lying, being defiant, and for some reason McKinley DOES NOT want to go to preschool anymore (after we just paid the money for the month).
Sigh...
As I think through all these things, my 4am brain is wondering why...?
Well, let's see...

Major life change? (new baby) - CHECK
Lack of routine? CHECK
Being cooped up in the house? CHECK
Lack of exercise? CHECK
Too much TV? CHECK
Too much candy? CHECK
Lack of scriptures in the morning? CHECK
Mommy that's tired/impatient/grumpy? CHECK-DOUBLE-CHECK

Yes, I know with a new baby some of these things are to be expected, but next week hopefully we'll work on them so that our home is a more loving, peaceful place to be.

As I climbed back into bed after all 3 girls had been put back down, I realized that it's not so bad. 10-15 years from now, we might be getting different middle-of-the-night wake-up calls. So...for now I'll take the innocent ones and cherish the time when they're small :)

A Good Grief

Most of you know the story of our friends, the Jacksons, if you have read my blog for very long. Their beautiful little girl, Lucy, died last year in a choking accident. I have posted about them HERE, HERE, and HERE.

Their blog has been an inspiration to so many people as they have gone through (and continue to go through) their journey of grief. They are wonderful people and have worked to set up a site to help all people who have suffered a loss - it's called A Good Grief. I have posted the link on the right and you can also find it here:

Please check it out! Send it to anyone you know who has suffered loss. They can share their story and gain insight and healing through reading other stories of loss and healing. She's even going to have guest writers - like NiNie and Cjane.

It takes pretty amazing people to experience that kind of loss and be able to use it to help others for good. I look forward to reading and learning from this new website. Great job Molly - Love ya!

October Slideshow, Videos, & kids stuff

Below is the monthly slideshow, along with a couple cute videos and the kids sayings. Enjoy!

October Slideshow

Ring Around the Rosies w/ Grandma & Grandpa Potts

McKinley practicing her primary finger play

McKINLEY: McKinley continues to be our inquisitive 4-year-old – always asking questions. Here’s some other things she’s been up to:
- One day McKinley was on a big Spanish word kick. She wanted to know the Spanish word for EVERYthing! Good thing her daddy knows Spanish. She stumped him, though, when she wanted to know the Spanish word for “panties.” (yeah….let’s hope daddy didn’t learn that one on his mission ;)
-McKinley is becoming more aware every day of our financial situation. One day she prayed “Please help the money to come back – lots and lots of money!”
-McKinley still loves her birthday and was talking about it a lot this month. We were watching the video slideshow I made from her birthday party & she said “Mom – can I skidoo into there - PLEASE?” (If you don’t know what “skidoo” is, you need to watch more Blues Clues.
-Another prayer from McKinley “And please bless Satan to be nice… and please bless mommy’s baby to get here for Christmas.”
-McKinley’s latest antic has been saying “No Thanks!” in her sweetest voice. It’s great that she’s learning how to be polite, but most of the time she uses it when mommy says something like “time to get ready for bed!” and she’ll say “No Thanks!”
-McKinley & Ireland were playing outside and McKinley came in and said “Mooooom – Ireland is ready for her nap!”
-Now that McKinley is 4, she wants to tell EVERYone, but she is a little shy, so when we’ll be talking to someone she doesn’t know, she will whisper in mom’s ear over & over “Mom, tell them that I am 4!”
-Another thing that McKinley has been saying a lot “Mom – I can’t wait till I’m a mommy!” mom said “Why?” McKinley says “So that I can use sharp knives!”
-McKinley & Ireland like to take the mattress off McKinley’s bed, strip the blankets and sheets off, and use it as a slide.
-McKinley was asking more details questions about how the doctor gets the baby out of mommy. We kind of sidestepped the answer.
-Mommy usually has the breadmaker going when we’re at church so that there’s fresh bread when we get home. She made homemade bread on a weekday and when McKinley came in, she said “Mom – what are you doing? It’s not Sunday!”
-McKinley’s favorite color this month is pink, pink, pink
-McKinley has been doing a lot of whispering into mom or dad’s ears – especially when there’s people over that she doesn’t know very well.
-McKinley’s prayer the other day: “Please bless that Ireland will marry Sam and I will marry Jack – because I love him”
-McKinley came in from playing outside – she was so excited - “Mom!! I am SO proud of Tundra! He dug up my treasure – my shovel – in the sandbox! I’m so proud of him!”
-McKinley has LOVED her new baby sister and especially loves to wash her hands so she can hold her and talk to her and sing to her. She is mom’s big helper and will get diapers, wipes or burp cloths whenever we ask her to – and she likes to help give Kezia’s baths, too. At first she didn’t like the name Kezia & would call her Trianna instead, but she’s warming up to the name.

IRELAND: Ireland is our BALL OF ENERGY! She is completely non-stop and full of life.
-One of the cute things Ireland has been saying after she gets ready in the morning “Mom – Ready to go. It’s a beautiful day!” (comes from a Signing Time song)
-Another (annoyingly) cute thing she does is when she does something bad, like hitting or drawing on the walls, and she can tell mom is mad, she will come over and say “hugs, mom, hugs” and give her hugs.
-Ireland has started singing in nursery, but there is no “low volume.” She screams the songs and doesn’t really have a tune. We are working on that.
-We love it when Ireland says “tell me a story!”
-At the Hoffman’s party, she and Jack Evanson were fighting over a toy and I hear her say to him “use your inside voice!” (she knows that phrase pretty well since she hears it about 50 times a day!)
-Mom found McKinley & Ireland in the baby’s room one day. They had gotten into all the birth equipment stuff – opened everything and shoved the rubber gloves down their shirts like they were pregnant.
-Ireland is getting really good at her shapes. She still can’t remember squares very good, but is getting better. What’s cute, though, is when you ask her what shape a heart is and she will say “LOVE.”
-One day Ireland decided she wasn’t Ireland any more. She came to mom & said “Mom – I’m a doggy! Ruff, ruff!”
-If you asked Ireland a question a month ago, her way of saying yes was repeating what you said, but now she’s just constantly saying “yeah!”
-Ireland amazes us with her full sentences and memory. We were driving and she said “I want ice cream like we had yesterday!”
-Ireland came in from paying outside and was crying. Mom asked what happened. Ireland said “McKinley hit me!” Then she marched back outside and yelled “McKinley – go in time out! GO IN TIME OUT!”
-Ireland LOVES the new baby. Maybe a bit too much. We REALLY have to watch her around the baby or she will lay on her or poke her everywhere. She talks so sweet to her, though, and is so cute. She has a hard time when the baby’s in the swing, though – and wants to push her or stop her. One time she had pushed her so hard, she fell over on her head! It was a bit scary, but she was OK.

KEZIA: We are so happy to have our sweet Kezia join our family this month!
-Her entire birth story is on our blog, but the short story is that Heidi went into labor (after Sherri stripped her membranes) about 2pm and Kezia was born at 9:34pm. There were some scares with an elevated heart rate from the baby, and hemorrhaging after the birth, but Sherri handled everything really well and Jason also gave 2 blessings. In the end, we are just so thankful she is here & healthy.
-Kezia seems to generally prefer her vibrating chair over her cradle – just like McKinley – although we’re trying to get her to sleep in her cradle more.
-We’re not sure about the binki. She doesn’t usually take it easily, but once she does really take it, she will hang on to it throughout the night.
-Currently, she’s waking 3 times at night – at about 2am, 4am, and 5am. She’s on a pretty good nap schedule right now during the day – with eating, awake time, and sleeping. She has been happier with this and generally pretty content with the world.
-She went in to her first doctor visit at 2 days and Dr. Daynes says she looks perfect (which we are SO thankful for because we had some worries about a heart murmur).
-She is nursing very well and we hope by her 2 week visit she will be back to her birth weight!
-She has BEAUTIFUL blonde/red hair & we’re hoping she keeps it!
-Her umbilical cord fell off at 5 days.
-She is very attentive and works very hard at turning her head and focusing on where a sound is coming from. She loves mommy & daddy’s voices!

Halloween 2009

This year wasn't quite as "Halloween-y" as in years past due to the baby, but we still had fun carving pumpkins and dressing up. Here's some fun pictures:

My friend Lisa let us borrow this costume. Have you ever seen anything so ADORABLE?? Seriously, this was the cutest costume ever - and she didn't even need a coat. Thanks Lisa!

I had to get a shot of the back. I wish I had a video of how she looked when she was running & the elephant behind would just bounce around. It was hilarious!

McKinley was Sleeping Beauty - courtesy of cousin Tiarra. I had more grandiose plans for her hair, but she was still a cutie and loved twirling around and looking so pretty.

Kezia the tiny, cute bunny. Can you see the light red hair? I'm holding my breath that she'll keep it - I'd LOVE a little red-head!

She even had a little bunny-tail in back.

Ready to go!

Had to include this picture because Ireland's face just makes me crack up!!

Introducing...

Kezia Trianna Hamilton!
For those wondering about the name...
Kezia is a bible name - one of the 3 daughters Job was blessed with after he went through his trials. The bible says "And in all the land were no women found so fair as the daughters of Job." (Job 42:15). (as a sidenote, we were undecided between Eden and Kezia. We took a family vote - Jason's side was more for Kezia. Heidi's was more for Eden. Then we flipped a penny, and Kezia it is!) We'll call her Kezi for short.
Trianna - a combination of our mother's names - PaTRIcia and DeeANN. McKinley & Ireland are also both named after grandmothers. It is also a street (and town) in the Canary Islands, where Jason served his mission.

Here are the short stats:

-Born October 26th at 9:34pm
-8 lbs 4 oz
-20.5 inches long (just like her sisters!)
-Born at home

Now, for those of you wanting the nitty-gritty details - and for her journal, here is the rest of the story (as I remember it):
Her due date was Thursday, Oct 22, and even though I know I always go late, I was pretty miserable, so my midwife, Sherri, came on Oct 21 & did the primrose oil and stripped my membranes. I went for a good hour walk & the contractions were coming pretty good. I got my hopes up, but was disappointed when the contractions fizzled that night & were gone the next day. My mom was cute & took me out to breakfast at Kneaders the next day & my sweet neighbor, Kristina, took me some fresh-baked bread as a sympathy offering. It was hard to wait, but wait we did.
Monday, October 26th, Sherri got to our home at around 1pm. She again did the primrose oil & stripped my membranes. We were both surprised & glad that I was dialated to a 4 by that time (I was a 2 the Wednesday before) Then she had me do some lunges & squats & off we went in her tiny neon green Volkswagen Bug to Walmart. The contractions were coming, but I had had so many in the past, I was kind of in a "I'll believe it when I see it" mode. However, my shopping experience at Walmart was not an especially pleasant one. I was really having to start to stop and focus and they were getting painful. After checking out, we had planned to go to Dave's Health & Nutrition, but I really wasn't sure that was a good idea because they were really coming stronger. So we headed back to the house & she checked me. This was about 4:30pm. I was a 6! Hooray! That really meant that I was progressing & we could have a baby that night!
Sherri starting calling her attendants and I started calling my sisters & mom (for the record, my sister Cindy was the only one that answered even though I called the others multiple times). I also called my dad & he came to get the girls and take them to his house (thanks dad!). Sherri had Jason running around getting things ready and I was just trying to focus. At about 5pm, I got in my jetted tub and that seemed to really help ease the pain.

workin' it in the tub

Cindy got here at around 5:15 or so. Mom & Trisha got here around 6pm - and the other attendants did as well - Molly and Denise. She checked me again around that time & I was about a 7. By that time, I decided to get out & try the ball & see if that would get things moving faster. I went in the baby's room and everyone was really great to help push on my legs and my back & help get me through the contractions. Sherri had me do the stairs and lunges and I was walking around and they were getting pretty painful. I was getting kind of cold, so I got back in the tub, but when they checked the baby's heartbeat, it seemed really really fast. Sherri came & checked and was worried as well. Jason gave me a blessing and we waited & they tried a different Doppler fetal monitor. It seemed to have slowed down. We were so thankful because we would have ended up going to the hospital if her heart rate would have stayed elevated. Sherri checked again around 8 and I was "almost an 8."

We decided that we should probably break my water soon to get the baby to come since that was what it took to get Ireland here. They set up the birth stool in the baby's room and I got situated with everyone around to support me - physically and emotionally. Not too long after getting situated on the birthing stool, the contractions changed. I could tell they were the REAL DEAL. Funny how you forget all the pain from a previous birth, but it all just comes back it all reality and I was going oh YEAH - this HURTS! I was glad the girls weren't there. I was "vocalizing" quite a bit by the end :)
After I was about a 9, Sherri "teased" the bag and I got some good pushes in, our sweet baby girl was there about 10 minutes later - 9:34pm. I was soooooo thankful she was here! I could not contain my tears! She had finally made her way into the world & I was able to hold my sweet girl in my arms. They put her on my chest and I just chrerished the moment of this fresh-from-heaven treasure.
I wish I could say that was the end of the story. I won't go into too much detail here, but the postpartum story involved an irregular placenta, hemorrhaging (with blood clots), a blessing, a "manual D&C", throwing up, an IV bag, and barely a wink of sleep the night after she was born. Needless to say, I am still pretty weak and tired while my body builds back all the blood I lost. I am SO blessed, though. There were at least 3 instances throughout this time that I was close to going to the hospital, but I truly feel that we were watched over and protected. I cannot say enough how thankful I am to my AMAZING husband. His priesthood blessings were critical and his support was unwavering. He was truly inspired the entire time. I am so thankful for Sherri. Watching her work is amazing. She has so much knowledge and experience which she incorporates, but I'm most comforted by her ability to work by the spirit and by inspiration. I am also SO, SO thankful for my sisters and mom for being there for me - supporting me every step of the way and being such a blessing to me. I am thankful to the attendants - Molly & Denise. So awesome. I felt SO loved and taken care of the entire time. I could NOT have asked for a better support team in bringing this sweet, amazing, beautiful girl into this world and into our home.

Meeting their new sister. They are SO, SO, SO excited to have her here!

I can either laugh or cry...

...and I've already cried, so I'm now trying to find the humor in the situation.

I'm actually already overdue. I put my ticker a week later than my actual due date since I know I always go late. I really think my babies are just like that kid in the comic- they're just settled and happy in there & don't want to come out! I'm praying super-hard for patience & an eternal vision.

Potts Girls, Bows, Balloons, Party, and Baby Prep

Nice title, huh? I thought I'd be descriptive this time.

It's been a busy past couple days! It started on Thursday - my mom came over & I helped her with her book on CD and she watched the girls while Jason & I went to a prenatal appt.

On Friday, Trisha came over & we had German pancakes & then went to the temple. Afterwards, we had pizza and got a bit of memory stuff done (I was working on transferring VHS to DVD).

Saturday we had the bow-making party from 10-12. I am SO excited to have so many beautiful, cute bows for my girls!

Afterwards, we went to honor and remember the sweet Matthews twins - a year ago they lived their short, perfect lives and we let go of white balloons to remember them.

That evening, we headed up beautiful Provo Canyon to Heber for the Park City ward friends Halloween Party. I didn't get as many pictures as I wanted to, but here are some cute ones. Thanks again Shannan & Ryan for putting it together! We had a great time visiting, eating yummy food, watching the kids play & carving pumpkins. Missed ya Molly & Vic!

Hangin' out

Today (Sunday), we stayed home from regional conference. I know, I know... let's just say the spirit was willing but the flesh is, well, stretched. And I am soooo tired today.
McKinley was so cute today, though. She has been pretending more that she is pregnant. Today was the first time she really asked specifically how the baby comes out of the mom. I really wasn't going to get into it, so I told her that the mom pushes really hard & the baby comes out. So - here are her "birthing pictures". She is SO excited for this baby to get here!

No more excited than me, though! Here's a recent picture of my ginormous belly. Let's all hope & pray she comes this week!
